Volunteers at Rise Against Hunger event held at the Kirk

RISE AGAINST HUNGER (formerly Stop Hunger Now) has been fulfilling its mission to end hunger across the globe for 15 years. Established in 1998, Rise Against Hunger coordinates the distribution of food and other life-saving aid to crisis-burdened  areas around the world. This is accomplished through popular community-supported meal packaging programs that often are part of corporate responsibility or volunteer service projects.  Rise Against Hunger has packaged and distributed more than 100,000,000 meals to 65 countries around the world.

At  the Kirk, through the budget of the Mission Committee,  we provide one half of the funds necessary each year to package 100,000 meals in partnership with the Cary Rotary Club, which provides the other half of the funding.  Total funding for the project is $ 25,000.

Rise Against Hunger delivers the raw materials, packaging, rice, soy protein, veggies, and vitamins to the church, volunteers unload the trucks, set up the assembly area, instructions are given and packaging begins.  Each shift packages about one third of the meals, the boxes are put back in the trucks and the volunteers clean up at the end of the day.
