December 18 Advent Devotion – My Word is Joy!

Christmas Under Construction – Devotions for your Advent Season

John 3:16-17

John 3:16-17:  “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.  For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.”

Joy is defined as a feeling of great pleasure and happiness.   Near the end of 2016, I was experiencing a sense of emptiness in my life that nagged at me daily.  An unexpected trip to Barnes and Noble and a God Wink led me to a new devotional by Sarah Young entitled, Jesus Always, Embracing Joy in His Presence. The devotions are written as if Jesus is speaking directly to me.  My search led me to find Joy, and a closer connection to Jesus.  One of my favorite prayers in the book is “Jesus, you are my Strength, my Song and my Joy!”  Reciting it makes me more aware of His Presence.

Let’s face it, life is hard and finding Joy in every single moment may sometimes seem unattainable.  Yet, today’s Scripture is filled with the ultimate message of Joy!  God lovingly sent us the precious gift of His Son so we could enter into a deeper relationship with Him.  Jesus is the Guiding Light we need to find our way straight to the Father’s Heart.  God is saying My Word is the Living Joy – go forth and believe it, live it, rejoice in it, give thanks for it, and always share this good news with everyone so the Gospel will thrive within your hearts, minds, and souls until the day you join Me in Eternal Life!  Rejoice in the birth of Christ the King!  Come celebrate Jesus and celebrate the endless Joy!

Prayer:   Heavenly Father, we thank you for loving us, and for giving us your only Son to show us the way to You.  During Advent and all year long let us remember to spread the Living Joy of the Gospel with others at every opportunity.  Amen.
